Naga City: Liberal Party standard-bearer Manuel “Mar” Roxas 2nd admitted that the administration bets are not yet poised for a victory on May 9.
Roxas made the remark ahead of the last pre-election survey conducted by the Social Weather Stations showing him in third place with 20 percent, still behind Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte who still surged at 33 percent. Neophyte Sen. Grace Poe was a far second at 22 percent.
But it is not yet enough. We still have to convince people to campaign for Mar Roxas among our neighbors, family members and people we know because we are still catching up on percentages),” Roxas told the crowd here where the LP campaign rally was graced by their top endorser, President Benigno Aquino 3rd.
Roxas fared better in the Pulse Asia survey with 22 percent and is statistically tied with Poe for second place who garnered 21 percent. But the Pulse Asia survey also showed Duterte ahead by a mile at 33 percent.
Roxas conceded that despite the party machinery, the fight to the finish won’t be easy considering that the administration’s critics have been trying to discredit him by questioning the gains under the Aquino administration.
This will not be easy because my rivals will do everything they can to break the trust we have with each other. But seeing you tonight, I feel that you are unfazed, that you believe and continue to stand for good governance, for Mar Roxas, for an honest government),” he said.
“Our program is simple. It is focused on your victory,” Roxas added.
