• Roxas camp courting Romualdezes

RUMORS have been circulating in the intelligence community that the camp of Liberal Party standard bearer, former Interior Secretary Manuel ‘Mar’ Roxas 2nd is trying to court the support of the influential Romualdez clan in the coming May 9 synchronized national and local elections.

“So far we have monitored an emissary from the camp of Roxas making contact with the group of Romualdez,” the intelligence officer based in Camp Crame said on Friday.

The intelligence officer added that what they have so far gathered is that the Roxas camp is trying to court the Romualdez clan to support their bet in the coming election in the typhoon ravaged region of Eastern Visayas.

It was also gathered that the Roxas camp is promising in return that they would silently support the vice-presidential bid of Senator Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos in the coming election.

“It seems that this offer being made by the Roxas camp is highly impossible, it’s like mixing oil and water,” the intelligence officer added.

“It is still fresh in the minds of the Romualdez clan the apparent failure of Roxas to manage and handle the situation in Eastern Visayas especially after the onslaught of super typhoon Yolanda,” the intelligence officer said.

He said that still etched in the memories of the Romualdez camp is what Roxas said during a meeting with Tacloban City Mayor Alfredo Romualdez in the aftermath of Yolanda: ‘Remember that you’re a Romualdez and the President is an Aquino.”

The officer added that if Roxas had handled the situation in Eastern Visayas well as Interior Secretary, then they [Roxas camp] need no longer have to beg for the support of the Romualdez’s in the coming election.

At present Roxas continues to languish at the bottom of survey ratings for the presidentiables, placing fourth behind Senator Grace Poe, Vice President Jejomar Binay and Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.
