President Benigno Aquino on Friday said it is time for Secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas 2nd to leave the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).
In his speech during the 114th Police Service Anniversary rites at Camp Crame, Aquino lauded Roxas’ “exemplary leadership.”
“Ngayon bababa na sa puwesto si Secretary Mar upang hindi mahaluan ng politika ang pagpapakitang-gilas ng DILG at ng ating PNP [Secretary Mar is about to step down from office to avoid adding political color to the good performance of the DILG and PNP],” Aquino said.
“Tiwala tayong malalim na ang ugat ng ipinunla niyang mga reporma, na tiyak na yayabong tungo sa higit na pagpapalakas ng ating kapulisan [We are confident that the seeds of reform that he planted will flourish to further fortify our police],” he added.
Aquino formally endorsed Roxas as the Liberal Party standard-bearer a few days after his last State of the Nation Address.
Roxas immediately filed his resignation but Aquino asked him to stay a little longer because there were still a lot of things to do.
“Palagay ko, kayo na rin ang sasang-ayon sa mahusay niyang pagtitimon sa ating pambansang pulisya, pati na rin sa Bureau of Fire Protection at Bureau of Jail Management and Penology [I believe you will agree in his good leadership of our national police and the Bureau of Fire Protection and Bureau of Jail Management and Penology],” the President said.
The President mentioned the success of Oplan Lambat Sibat, which was headed by Roxas during his term as DILG chief.
He said the campaign will now be launched in Regions 3 and 4.
Meanwhile, the President reminded the PNP to keep the integrity of the police force for the upcoming 2016 elections.
“Ang hamon at atas ko sa inyo: Siguraduhin na patas, payapa at makatarungan ang magiging pagpili ng susunod na pinuno ng ating mga Boss (My challenge to you is this: To ensure that the next elections will be peaceful, orderly), ” Aquino said.
“Alam kong patuloy lang ninyong tutuparin ang inyong trabaho; na wala kayong kikilingang partido o ilang panig na inuuna ang agendang pansarili, kaysa kapakanan ng nakakarami… Alam kong patuloy ninyong tatahakin ang landas na makatwiran at makakabuti sa ating mga Boss (I know that you will continue to do your work; that you will not favor any party or group that seeks to promote itself before the many… I know that you will continue to keep on the path that is just),” he added.
