SILAY CITY, Negros Occidental: Liberal Party (LP) standard-bearer Manuel “Mar” Roxas 2nd is not freeloading on anybody to finance his campaign.
Roxas, in a combative stance, was responding to insinuations made by a rival in the presidential race in the 2016 elections—Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Dutert—that a certain Eric Gutierrez, owner of SR Metals Inc. (SRMI) based in Tubay, Agusan del Sur, is lending Roxas private planes allegedly in exchange for protecting the miner’s interest.
“That is foolish. That is not free, that is not a favor. I pay for [the private planes’]use and I can assure you that the money I use to pay for [using them]does not come from public funds,” he said.
“I don’t owe anyone for the use of the aircraft because I am paying for [using them],” Roxas added.
He, however, admitted that Gutierrez, the owner of the aircraft, is his friend.
“Eric Gutierrez is my friend . . . what is wrong with that?” Roxas said.
