WHILE he gained the support of San Juan City (Metro Manila) Mayor Guia Gomez, it is a different story with former president and now Manila Mayor Joseph “Erap” Estrada who said he would not endorse the candidacy of administration bet Manuel “Mar” Roxas 2nd.
Estrada on Thursday said Roxas, then-Trade secretary when he was president, should not expect any blessing from him because his former Cabinet official has done nothing to help him as Manila mayor.
“No more. He didn’t help me in Manila,” he told reporters at a news briefing.
Roxas earlier said that he is still hoping that he would be endorsed by the former leader.
“Of course, who would resist being endorsed by a respected person like President Estrada? But I don’t have allies here in San Juan. But they are my allies in straight governance,” Roxas said in his visit to San Juan City last year.
Gomez, a partner of Estrada and mother of Sen. Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito, on Monday endorsed the 2016 presidential bid of Roxas.
“I allowed her the free will to choose,” Estrada said.
“She said it was out of gratitude for Roxas’ support in her housing program,” he added.
Gomez said she decided to support Roxas because he had helped her in the construction of in-city housing projects for her constituents.
JV said he will be supporting the candidacy of his fellow senator, Grace Poe, in this year’s presidential elections.
