FORMER Interior and local government Secretary Manuel Roxas 2nd described as “pathetic” the plunder complaint filed against him and other Cabinet officials of the previous administration over the allegedly anomalous Metro Rail Transit (MRT) 3 maintenance contract.
Roxas, who is still abroad, noted that charges were filed by the currently leadership of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) because of its failure to deliver what its promised to the Filipino people.
“In a word? Pathetic. Dahil walang mapakitang accomplishment sa mga ipinangako, nagimbento ng kasong walang laman, walang basehan sa katotohanan o sa batas para ipakitang may ginagawa sila (because they could not show any accomplishment for all their promises, they just invented cases that has no substance, no factual or legal basis to make it appear that they did something,” Roxas said in a statement.
The DOTr on Tuesday filed a plunder complaint before the Office of the Ombudsman against Roxas, and former Cabinet officials namely Joseph Emilio Abaya (transportation), Florencio Abad (budget), Cesar Purisima (finance), Jericho Petilla (energy), Mario Montejo (Science and Technology), Voltaire Gazmin, (defense), Secretary Rogelio Singson (Public Works), and Arsenio Balisacan (National Economic and Development Authority) over the multibillion-contract awarded to Busan Universal Rail Inc. in December 2015.
“This is laughable on its face. I haven’t received a copy of the complaint and will withhold further comment until I do,” added Roxas.
