The Liberal Party(LP) will field Interior Secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas 2nd as its standard-bearer in the 2016 elections despite his low ratings in recent surveys on possible candidates for President.
According to Senate President Franklin Drilon, LP vice chairman, Roxas remains the party’s top choice for the race to Malacanang in next year’s polls.
“Our candidate [for President]is Mar Roxas,” Drilon said in an interview with Bulacan media last Thursday.
The LP, which is led by President Benigno Aquino 3rd, is yet to decide on who Roxas’ running mate will be in the 2016 elections.
Drilon said the party’s line-up of candidates for senator is still undecided.
Based on the latest Pulse Asia survey, four percent of the respondents favored Roxas as their pick for Vice President.
In the same survey, Vice President Jejomar Binay received the support of 29 percent of the respondents.
Binay defeated Roxas in the 2013 polls.
