INTERIOR Secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas 2nd is willing to undergo a lifestyle check to serve as an example to members of his department and Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel.
In a news briefing on Wednesday, Roxas said they are coordinating with Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Commissioner Kim Santos-Henares, National Police Commission (Napolcom) and the Internal Affairs Service (IAS) of the PNP on the implementation of the lifestyle checks. These agencies will conduct the lifestyle check.
“Bakit hindi? Maski ako magpapasailalim sa isang lifestyle check para maging isang magandang halimbawa sa mga tauhan at miyembro ng PNP [Why not? Even I will submit to a lifestyle check to serve as a good example to the officers and men of the PNP],” a scion of one of the wealthiest families in the country, added.
He said the BIR will team up with the Napolcom and PNP-IAS in checking the lifestyles of all police officers and personnel.
The Interior secretary added that a memorandum circular on the conduct of the planned lifestyle check will be issued to boost their campaign against police crooks and misfits.
The lifestyle check will be patterned after the standard of the Department of Finance (DOF), with some changes to suit the PNP.
Roxas said they will assign a hotline that the public could call if they have information about activities of abusive policemen.
The move to submit PNP personnel to a lifestyle check stemmed from the involvement of some personnel of the La Loma police station in Quezon City in the P2-million Edsa abduction/robbery on September 1.
In that incident, the suspects were pictured to have used brand-new luxury vehicles in their caper that prompted the public clamor for a lifestyle check on PNP personnel.
