INTERIOR and Local Government Secretary Manuel Roxas 2nd on Friday said he wants more policemen in Metro Manila in a bid to bring down the number of crimes that had been surging for the past months.
Roxas, according to a statement, ordered the Metro Manila police chief, Director Carmelo Valmoria, to deploy an additional 1, 300 policemen in Metro Manila or the National Capital Region (NCR).
He said the additional policemen should be deployed to “eight problem areas” in the region where crime incidence is high.
Roxas also directed Valmoria to analyze their database on Geographical Information System (GIF) and determine areas in Metro Manila that need additional policemen.
The GIF focuses on mapping incidents and identifying hot spots where most crimes happen.
The eight “problem areas” in Metro Manila include Masambong in Quezon City, Sampaloc in Manila, Pasig City and Mandaluyong City.
“The deployment must be made on a rotational basis, such that the deployed personnel will also be [fielded] in other problematic areas to avoid fraternization,” Roxas said.
