Spanish point guard Ricky Rubio of Minnesota Timberwolves said that Philippine type of basketball is closer to the National Basketball Association (NBA) than the Euro League.

“The Philippine [basketball]game is pretty close to the NBA game. They are really good,” said Rubio during a press conference on Friday at the Bonifacio Global City.“I watched them a lot during the World Cup in Spain and they played the type of basketball close to the NBA.”

He visited the historic Intramuros along with Filipino celebrities Solenn Heussaff, Belle Daza, Anne Curtis and Jasmine Curtis, football players James and Phil Younghusband, and basketball players Aljon Mariano of University of Santo Tomas, Arvin Tolentino of Ateneo, Gelo Alolino of National University, Roi Sumang of University of the East, Kyles Lao and Diego Dario of University of the Philippines.

The 24-year-old Rubio, who averaged 10.2 points, 8.2 assists and 2.3 steals per game in four seasons in the NBA, will promote Adidas X shoes together with shoes brand ambassadors when he visits one of the Adidas branches on Saturday.

Rubio will also go to Dubai, United Arab Emirates for the Basic Ball Academy Summer Camp activities after his Manila visit.
