• No runner-up in PH television ratings war


    NOBODY wants to take the second spot when it comes to TV ratings in the Philippines.

    For the month of September the two network giants, ABS-CBN Corp. and GMA Network Inc., both claimed the top spot in the television ratings war as they cite contrasting data from two TV audience rating companies.

    ABS-CBN said that more Filipino households across urban and rural homes continue to tune in to its programs, which again topped all local TV stations in September with an average total day audience share of 43 percent based on data from Kantar Media.

    GMA Network, on the other hand, said that it grabbed the nationwide ratings lead in September, citing data from Nielsen TV Audience Measurement.

    ABS-CBN claimed it remained unbeatable in other key territories such as Balance Luzon (areas in Luzon outside Mega Manila), where it reportedly got an average total day audience share of 47 percent; 56 percent in the Visayas, and 53 percent in Mindanao, based on Kantar Media survey.

    For its part, quoting Nielsen TV Audience findings, GMA said that during the covered period (September 21 to 30 based on overnight data), it led National Urban Television Audience Measurement (NUTAM) ratings with a 35 percent total day household audience share, higher than ABS-CBN’s 34.1 percent.

    In primetime viewing, ABS-CBN said it continued to lead in the 6 p.m. to 12 midnight block, where it gained an average audience share of 48 percent, ahead of GMA’s 35 percent.

    GMA, however, ruled over ABS-CBN in the morning and afternoon blocks in NUTAM with 32.6 and 36.2 percent, respectively, ahead of ABS-CBN’s 28.9 and 32.4 percent, respectively.
