SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union: Women organizations were tapped as program partners of the Rural Improvement Clubs (RIC) in at least eight pilot villages in this city implemented recently.
City RIC coordinator Florycel Obeña said the barangays of Mameltac, Cadaclan, Cabaroan, Tanquigan, Calabugao, Pao Norte, Masicong, and Cabarsican are the first batch of beneficiaries to the livelihood enhancement program.
The group identified in the barangay shall manage either small-scale vegetable production; backyard hog-raising and poultry-raising which funding and direct supervision will be provided by the city government. The technical assistance will come from Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University and the Department of Agriculture.
Obeña said that each barangay RICs will be allocated Php30, 000 for their livelihood program which fund must be liquidated after six months to be awarded to the next batch of beneficiaries.
City Mayor Pablo Ortega, meanwhile, said beneficiaries would be given assorted vegetable seeds, seedling trays, fertilizer, insect traps and plastic mulch in vegetable production.
