• Russia to ban Ugarov for competing in Japan

MOSCOW: Russian athlete Viktor Ugarov is facing a ban of up to four years for having snubbed a general IAAF suspension to compete in a marathon in Japan over the weekend, the Russian athletics federation said on Tuesday (Wednesday in Manila). Ugarov won Sunday’s marathon at Kanazawa, but in doing so violated Friday’s IAAF provisional suspension of the All-Russian Athletics Federation (ARAF) after the country’s athletics ruling body was accused of state-sponsored doping.
