THE South Korean government has donated a landing craft utility (LCU) to the Philippines which officials said will boost the capability of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in humanitarian assistance and disaster response (HADR).
But according to the Navy Commander Vice Admiral Jesus Millan, the LCU which arrived on May 30, 2015, has to be repaired.
The cost of repair was estimated at P26 million. According to Millan, a brand new LCU costs around P6 billion.
Since it was a donation, Millan said the Philippines has to shoulder the shipping cost of more or less P16 million.
South Korea also donated at least 16 rubber boats.
