Siblings Mary Angelic and Imee Joyce Saavedra of Diliman Preparatory School were the Most Outstanding swimmers in Philippine Swimming League (PSL) 47th Leg Series of El Presidente – 1st Ibalong National Age-Group Swimming Championship held in Legazpi City.
Mary Angelic, 16, dominated the girls’ 100-meter freestyle, 50m freestyle, breaststroke, butterfly and backstroke while Imee Joyce, 11, ruled the girls’ 100m freestyle, 50m freestyle, breaststroke, butterfly and backstroke.
With their victories, the Saavedra sisters earned the right to represent the country in the 2013 Swimming Meet in Bangkok, Thailand in December.
Mark Bryan Dula, 6, also made his presence felt by winning gold medal in record fashion in the boys’ 50m butterfly in 47 seconds.
Emanuel Joshua Lorbes, the Most Outstanding swimmer in the 15-year old category, copped two gold medals in the boys’ 50m freestyle (26 seconds) and 50m butterfly (27.82 seconds).
Also winning gold medals in their respective events are Anthony Lanza (7 years old category), Kensaku Hatasawa (8), Jordan Lobos (9), Ralph Bultron (10), Paul Tiples (12), Romeo Teodoro (13), Fergino Raneses (14), Matthew Thomas Tan (16), Jeffrey Azor (17) and Jerome Magallanes (18) in boys; and Bridgette Bultron (6), Iris Arnaldo (7), Isis Arnaldo (8), Zyrilyn Anonuevo (9), Charize Esmero (10), Erica Maureen Flaminiano (12), Angelica Mae Medrano (13), Erriel Jane Lim (14), Trisha Anne Oliveros (15), Arianne Alcantara (17) and Jackilyn Calvadores (18) in girls.
Some 30 swimming clubs participated in the tournament including those from Manila, Quezon City, Pasay City, Navotas City, Taguig City, Paranaque City, Muntinlupa City, Isabela, Lucena, Cavite, Bataan, Bulacan, Laguna and Aklan.
The National Swimming event was organized by PSL through its President, Susan Papa in the cooperation with Ibalong Magayon Aquagliders Swim Club of Legazpi headed by lawyer Ma. Teresa Mahiwo and Arlon Rances.
