Sabillo battles Rodriguez in Mexico

WORLD Boxing Organization (WBO) minimum weight undefeated champion Filipino Merlito “The Tiger” Sabillo will defend his title against Francisco “Titanium” Rodriguez today at the Arena Monterrey in Mexico City, Mexico.

Sabillo, who holds a record of 23 wins and a draw with 12 knockouts, expressed readiness to fight assuring Filipino fans that he would bring back the world title when he return to the Philippines. The Bacolod City native tipped the scale at 104.5lbs while the Mexican 105lbs.

Sabillo, 30, defended his title twice after defeating challengers Jorle Estrada via ninth round technical knockout in July and Nicaraguan Carlos Buitrago with a split draw decision in November.

ALA Promotions President Michael Aldeguer believes that Sabillo’s recent training in the United States for almost a month will have a huge impact on his fight. Sabillo’s speed, power and techniques have all improved according to Aldeguer.
