Agents of National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) arrested a prisoner and a jail guard of the Sablayan Penal Colony in Mindoro Occidental in an anti-drug operation.
Ruben Tiu, a convict, was charged for violation of Section 5 or Sale of Dangerous Drugs, while a case for violation of Section 26 in relation to Section 5 (Conspiracy to Sell Dangerous Drugs) and Article 223 (Conniving and Consenting to Evasion) of the Revised Penal Code were filed against Ahrbe Duron, a jail guard of the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor).
The anti-drug operation took place on April 17, 2015 just outside the penal colony’s gated compound.
Confiscated from Tiu was one kilo of methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu. Confiscated from Duron was a loaded .45 caliber pistol, a property of BuCor.
Three companions of Tiu, who served as his look outs, some of them allegedly prison guards, managed to flee on board a silver Toyota Innova and evaded arrest, because NBI agents were not familiar with the area.
NBI said Tiu tried to offer P15 million to the operatives in exchange for his freedom, asking them to just return him to the colony. The agents declined the offer.
