THE camp of Sen. Grace Poe on Friday thanked Albay Gov.Joey Salceda for his decision to support her candidacy despite his being the chairman of the Liberal Party in the Bicol region.
Valenzuela City Mayor Rex Gatchalian, Poe’s spokesman, said the senator is grateful to the governor for backing her candidacy.
“Sen. Poe is elated that she found a new ally to carry on this task. In the coming days, we expect more public servants with the same vision to join the Gobyernong may Puso (Government with a heart) wagon,” Gatchalian added.
He added that Poe is extremely excited to be working with Salceda who brings to the table a wealth of economic expertise.
“Together, Sen. Poe and Gov. Salceda will fight the battle to make our economic growth inclusive making sure that no Filipino is left behind. The good governor will also be working with Sen. Poe in improving the competitiveness and investment climate of the country,” Gatchalian added.
“She is steadfast in fighting for those who have been left behind, those that have not felt the growth of our economy” he said.
Salceda’s decision to support Poe has put an end to speculations about his plan to ditch Manuel Roxas 2nd, the administration party’s presidential bet.
The governor’s supposed plan to dump Roxas came out in February after Salceda warned that the province may not support Roxas because of the failure of the administration to finish the Bicol International Airport.
“If Mar Roxas will lose in Albay in the May 2016 election, it’s their (LP) problem because they did not fulfill the construction of Bicol International Airport as promised,” the governor said then.
President Benigno Aquino 3rd during his first State of the Nation Address promised that the Bicol International Airport will be operational in 2013 and will be completed in 2016.
The P3.5 billion Bicol International Airport was a flagship project of former President Gloria Macapagal-Aroyo.
There were also speculations that the Bicol governor will be supporting the candidacy of Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte after the latter announced that he would appoint Salceda as National Economic and Development Authority chief if he is elected President.
