Sale of imported cars up 13% in 2014

The Association of Vehicle Importers and Distributors (AVID) yesterday reported a 13 percent growth in sales last year from 31,399 units in 2013 to 35,565.

Sales of passenger cars rose 14 percent from 16,143 units to 18,457. Passenger cars make up 59 percent of total sales.

Sales of light commercial vehicles were boosted by the surge in sales of Chevrolet from 3,877 units in 2013 to 6,952 last year.

“AVID is confident the industry will continue to post good sales on the back of strong macro fundamentals and brisk vehicle demand.” Ma. Fe Perez-Agudo, AVID President, said.

“The Services sector will be the main growth driver this year and household spending will help boost sales for the year,” she said.
