FILIPINO boxers flyweight Rey Saludar and lightweight Charly Suarez bagged one silver medal each on Sunday after losing in their respective bouts in the finals of the 4th President’s Cup at the Baluak Sholan Palace of Culture and Sports in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

Saludar lost via unanimous decision to Uzbekistan’s Shahobiddin Zoirov. The judges scored 30-26, 30-27 and 30-27 in favor of the Uzbek.

Suarez lost through unanimous decision too despite knocking down Kazakhstan’s Berik Abdrahmanov in the third round. Abdrahmanov managed to get up and received the mandatory eight count. The judges scored 29-28, 30-27, 30-27 in favor of the Kazakh.

“We came here to gauge our strengths and weaknesses and to aid us in our decision on our final lineup for the Asian Games. Saludar and Suarez both had four tough fights in six days. I think we achieved our objectives,” said Alliance of Boxing Associations of the Philippines Executive Director Ed Picson.
