San Beda College thumped Ateneo de Manila University, 4-0, in the first division of 14th Ang Liga at the San Beda football field in Mendiola, Manila on Sunday.
The Red Booters started the match strong with two-goals from veteran James Pangasian.
Pangasian posted the first goal for the Mendiola XI in the 11th minute followed by another in the 40th to give his side a 2-0 advantage going into the halftime break.
The Bedans continued applying pressure on Ateneo’s defense in the second half as Nimrod Balabat scored another goal to extend their lead to 3-0, just two minutes after the restart.
Ateneo fought hard until the end of regulation but was unable to punch through the defense of their hosts.
Under-23 National Football Team pool member Connor Tacagni scored the final goal of the match after pulling away from his defenders in the 78th minute.
On the other hand, the reserve team of San Beda also won in the second division at the expense of the University of Santo Tomas Team B, 6-3.
Mariano Suba powered San Beda Team B with an impressive four goals while teammates Cris Villanueva and Jesse Feblante contributed a goal each.
Also, University of the Philippines Team B defeated De La Salle United, 6-1, through the combined efforts of Daniel Abraham and Patrick Dizon.
Dizon and Abraham finished with three and two goals, respectively, together with the lone strike of Migui Blanco in the 90th minute.
