Defending champion San Beda College Red Lions seek for a share of the top spot when they battle equally dangerous Jose Rizal University (JRU) Heavy Bombers on Monday in the 89th National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.
The Red Lions try to notch their ninth win and a chance to tie Letran College for the leadership as they face the Heavy Bombers at 4 p.m. A win by coach Boyet Fernandez wards will put them back at the top of the standing along with idle and currently solo pacesetter Letran, which is toting a 9-2 win-loss slate.
San Sebastian College, which is locked with JRU at the fourth spot at similar 5-5 card, will try to strengthen its position when they take on Arellano Chiefs (3-7) in the nightcap at 6:00 p.m.
The secondary matches pit reigning titlist San Beda Red Cubs against JRU Light Bombers at 12 noon and the San Sebastian Staglets against Arellano Braves at 2 p.m.
Coach Aric de Rosario’s Altas failed in their attempt to gain share of top spot after losing to Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals, 68-70, last Saturday, thanks to Jan Jamon and Noube Happi.
A win by the Red Lions over the Heavy Bombers will cement their quest of another Final Four appearance but a loss will drop them to a tie at second with the Altas.
