• San Beda shoots for NCAA F4 berth

FOUR-peat champions San Beda College Red Lions try to formalize their entry into the semifinal round on Wednesday when they clash against still in contention Lyceum of the Philippines Pirates in the 90th National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) seniors basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.
The 18-time titlist Red Lions, carrying a 12-2 card, need only a win to clinch the first Final Four berth.

They will meet with the Pirates at 2 p.m. Second front running Arellano University Chiefs likewise battle already eliminated Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals at 4 p.m. in their bid to strengthen their hope of advancing into the next round for the first since joining the league four years ago.

San Beda has plenty of time to make it to the semis since they have still four games left in their elimination round assignments, but coach Boyet Fernandez does not want his wards to relax and will go all out for the important victory that will send them into the Finals Four for the 7th straight time.

Fernandez has a reason to be confident since his wards have beaten the Pirates via an 84-68 rout in thier first meeting on July 9.

A loss by the 6-8 slate bearing Pirates, however, will not automatically eliminate them from the race but will make their quest a lot more tougher since they have to win all three remaining matches to catch up with the Arellano University Chiefs (10-4),

Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers (9-5) and College of St. Benilde Blazers (9-5).  FRANK CALAPRE
