San Beda to formalize Final Four top seeding

San Beda College seeks to formally claim the top seeding as it clashes with nemesis Arellano University even as Mapua and La Salle-Greenhills clash today for a chance to clinch the other twice-to-beat incentive in the Final Four of the National Collegiate Athletic Association juniors basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.

The Cubs turned back the Junior Blazers, 85-82, on Friday to ensure the former of the No. 1 seed after the elimination round plus the first of two twice-to-beat incentives in the Final Four.

A win over the Braves in their 2:15 p.m. encounter would avenge the Taytay, Rizal-based dribblers’ 90-93 defeat to the former in their first round meeting on August 1.

But San Beda coach JB Sison is more concerned on preparing for the Final Four.

“We just want to prepare ourselves physically and mentally and of course we want to go to the Final Four coming off a win,” said Sison.

Arellano, which fell to Mapua, 71-84, on Friday that sent it sliding from No. 2 to a share of No. 3 with La Salle-Greenhills on 13-4 records, just half a game behind the Red Robins, who jumped from No. 4 to No. 2 with a 13-3 mark.

A win by Mapua over La Salle-Greenhills in their 4 p.m. showdown would clinch it at least a playoff for the important twice-to-beat advantage.
