• San Fernando pays tribute to World War II ridge victory


    SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union: World War II memorabilia and other collectors’ items were put on public display on a Veterans’ Wall at the City Hall lobby here on Thursday, to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the “Victory of Bacsil Ridge,” on Friday, and also in celebration of Bataan Day on April 9. Bacsil Ridge became the most famous battleground of local Filipino Guerilla defenders against the Japanese soldiers, here. The historical objects also features both American and Japanese military helmets, visor caps, water containers, and firearms. Mayor Pablo Ortega of San Fernando, who also collects memorabilia, said the exhibit aims to educate younger generations and residents on how Filipino soldiers fought against the enemies for freedom.
