San Joaquin cautions public to avoid Campo Santo

ILOILO CITY: Mayor Eduardo Servidad of San Joaquin in Iloilo province alerted the residents entering the municipal cemetery to avoid Campo Santo chapel where illegal digging was discovered recently. He said they are not preventing the burying of the dead at the cemetery but people must avoid passing Campo Santo to prevent any untoward accident. Policemen and village watchmen were mobilized to guide the people entering the municipal cemetery. The San Joaquin Campo Santo became controversial after 10 people were arrested for digging and treasure hunting inside the chapel. The treasure hunting activity was reportedly approved by parish priest – Fr. Nelson Silvela – last December. The parish priest has filed an indefinite leave of absence after the police filed a case against him and the treasure hunters.
