San Mig Coffee, Barako Bull aim for share of sixth spot


SAN Mig Coffee and Barako Bull are aiming for a share of the sixth spot when they face separate foes today in the 39th Philippine Basketball Association Philippine Cup elimination round at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

The reigning Governor’s cup titlist Coffee Mixers meet Global-port Batang Pier at 8 p.m. following the Energy Cola and Talk ‘N Text encounter at 5:45 p.m.

A win by both San Mig Coffee and Barako Bull will result to a four-way tie from sixth to ninth position with Meralco and Alaska, both bearing similar 3-5 win-loss slates.

Coach Tim Cone’s Coffee Mixers coming off from a 90-88 win over Barako Bull on Tuesday will collide with Globalport Batang Pier. The latter are on a three-game winning run, their most impressive performance so far since joining the league in 2012. Their most recent win is against Alaska, 94-84, on December 13, courtesy of Solomon Mercado’s 26 points and Terrence Romeo’s 21 points. Jay Washington and Ryan Roose Garcia likewise contributed 13 apiece to power their rise to the fourth spot also that is occupied by Rain or Shine bearing a similar 4-3 card.

In the other game, Energy Cola that absorbed their fifth straight loss, 88-90, at the hands of San Mig Coffee on Tuesday will be opposed by defending titlist Tropang Texters, who regained their confidence after posting a 90-87 win over Rain or Shine.
