GILAS Pilipinas mainstay Marc Pingris and forward Joe Devance will be missing action when San Mig Coffee faces sister team Ginebra today while Globalport will likewise miss Kelly Nabong in its game against Barako Bull in the 38th Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Governor’s Cup Elimination round at the Araneta Coliseum.
San Mig Coffee hopes to notch its third win in six games and get away from the four-way logjam at the sixth to ninth spot as it battle the Gin Kings at 6:30 p.m. following the Barako Energy Cola and Globalport encounter at 4:15 p.m.
The 6’4 power forward Pingris, a third overall pick by FedEx Express in 2004 and the 6’7 Devance, a top pick by Welcoat Paints in 2008 are serving suspensions imposed upon by Commissioner Chito Salud for their involvement in a fistfight with Globalport players on Wednesday.
Pingris and Nabong were asked to pay a fine of P60,000 each plus a two-game suspension while Devance was also suspended for one game and meted a fine of P30,000, so was Marvin Hayes who was asked to pay a P20,000 fine.
“One player’s absence is an opportunity for others. The suspension is something beyond our control. I believe we still have enough depth in our lineup and a few good players around, who will win the game for us,” said coach Tim Cone.
