SAN Mig Coffee and Meralco Bolts will break their 1-1 tie today in Game Three of the best-of-five semifinals series of the 2013 Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Governor’s Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.
The Meralco B-Boys leaned on the locals to post a 73-69 win reducing the series to a best-of-three affair.
Game time is set at 7:15 p.m.
“We came out flat in Game 2. Maybe because that was our fourth playoff game in seven days. Now with the extra day, it will give us a chance to recharge our batteries both physically and mentally, said San Mig coach Tim Cone.
The 6’5 import Mario West struggled in the field goal but the local crew led by Reynel Hugnatan, Cliff Hodge, Sunday Salvacion and Jared Dillinger combined for 49 points and 29 rebounds to get back at the Coffee Masters, who defeated them in Game One (83-73) on September 29.
The 29-year-old West of Hunstville, Alabama managed to notch only 17 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and two steals which paled in comparison to Marqus Blakely’s 24 points, 15 rebounds, five assists and three block shots.
“It’s going to be close for both teams putting emphasis on defense. It’s going to be much more harder for us from now on. I think there will be no change in strategy as both like to play defense,” said Meralco coach Ryan Gregorio.
