ALASKA and San Miguel Beer will clash tonight for the title in a do-or-die Game 7 of the Philippine Basketball Association Philippine Cup at the Araneta Coliseum. Game time begins at 7 p.m.
The Aces under coach Alex Compton, forced a deciding Game 7 following an 87-76 win in Game 6 on Sunday tying the series at 3-3. Alaska is expected to go hard all the way to seize its 15th overall crown in the professional league.
“I felt our biggest advantage last Sunday was we have played hard and our guys brought a different intensity,” said Compton, who will rely on playmaker Jayvee Casio, Calvin Abueva, Sonny Thoss, Vic Manuel, Cyrus Baguio and veteran Dondon Hontiveros, among others.
“I’ll be praying that we’re going to have that same intensity and great performance in Game 7,” he added.
San Miguel Beer is aiming for its fifth Philippine Cup and 20th overall title.
“I don’t think the players both sides are tired because everybody is playing. It’s a matter of mental approach because it is mind over matter,” said SMB coach Leo Austria. “We’re not superior than them.”
The Beermen will bank on the prowess of Arwind Santos, Best Player of the Conference 6’10 Junemar Fajardo, Mario Lassiter, Chris Lutz, Alex Cabagnot and Doug Kramer among others.
