THE much awaited encounter between big men June Mar Fajardo and Greg Slaughter will happen today as San Miguel Beer face Ginebra Kings while Rain or Shine meet Barako Bull in the resumption of the 39th Philippine Basketball Association Commissioner’s Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.
The encounter between the Beermen and the Kings happens at 5:15 p.m. while the Rain or Shine vs. Barako Bull match begins at 3 p.m.
Import Josh Boone and Arwind Santos led the Beermen to a 94-76 win over Meralco Bolts while the Ginebra Kings required an extra five-minute period to post a 108-104 win over Barako Bull the other day.
The 6’10 Fajardo, the best player of the conference that did not play for the Beermen in the last game promised to play and collide with the 7’0 Slaughter of Ginebra today.
Fajardo, playing for the University of Cebu and Slaughter for the University of the Visayas, used to be archrivals in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation.
Leon Rodgers, who previously finished with 31 points, eight rebounds and four assists with Slaughter and 6’9 Japeth Aguilar will lead the Kings.
In the other game, Rain or Shine will parade 6’8 Alexander McLean aiming to bounce back from a failed attempt to win the Philippine Cup.
McLean who started his basketball career in Poland before playing in South America and Lebanon also had a Chinese Basketball Association stint in 2011, where he averaged 22.4 points, 14.6 rebounds, and 1.6 steals in nine games.
