SAN Miguel Brewery Inc. (SMB) will start work on its new production plant in Los Angeles, California in the next few months as it looks to cater to the American market.
Ramon Ang, president and chief executive officer of San Miguel Corp. (SMC), said the company has already acquired a parcel of land for the plant and they will soon start construction of the facility.
“Sa America … nabili na ang lupa, siguro [In America, the lot has been purchased], perhaps] in the next few months mag-ga-groundbreak kami ng brewery dun na malaki [we will break ground for a big brewery there],” Ang said.
Upon completion, the US production plant is expected to manufacture 2 million hectoliters of beer per year.
Earlier this year, SMB said it is also investing $500 million in the next two years for its domestic expansion, including a new production plant in Iloilo and Cagayan de Oro, each expected to produce 2 million hectoliters per year as well.
SMB will be consolidated into San Miguel Pure Foods, Inc. once the parent firm secures the regulators’ approval.
SMC has said it is moving to consolidate its beverage businesses into Pure Foods under San Miguel Food and Beverage, Inc.
The parent company is also planning consolidate its other traditional businesses.
