Sandigan orders arrest of former lawmaker

The Sandiganbayan has ordered the arrest of former Rep. Edgar Valdez of the Association of Philippine Electric Cooperatives (APEC) and his 28 co-accused in the plunder and graft complaints filed against them for the alleged misuse of pork barrel funds.

The anti-graft court’s Fifth Division issued the arrest warrants.

In a resolution dated February 23, the court threw out Valdez’s petition for the dismissal of the charges against him. The court also ordered the arrest of Janet Lim-Napoles, one of the former lawmaker’s co-accused.

In a separate ruling, the court also found sufficient ground to order the arrest of Napoles’s employee, John Raymund de Asis and several others.

Also ordered arrested were Budget Undersecretary Mario Relampagos and employees Rosario Nuñez, Marilou Bare and Lalaine Paule; former Technology Resource Center (TRC) Directors General Antonio Ortiz and Dennis Cunanan; National Agribusiness Corp. (Nabcor) President Allan Javellana and National Livelihood and Development Corp. (NLDC) ex-President Gondelina Amata.

Also in the list were Marivic Jover, Evelyn de Leon, Roy Bongalo, Rosalinda Lacsamana, Consuelo Lilian Espiritu, Salvador Salacup, Eduardo Nolasco, Rhodora Mendoza, Victor Cacal, Maria Ninez Guañizo, Maria Julie Villaralvo-Johnson, Romulo Relevo, Gregoria Buenaventura, Emmanuel Alexis Sevidal, Chita Jalandoni, Sofia Cruz, Ofelia Ordoñez, and Eulogio Rodriguez.

Valdez was accused of receiving kickbacks of P57.787 million from 2004 to 2010.
