The anti-graft court Sandiganbayan has issued an order to bring in Sen. Juan Ponce Enrile whose petition for bail was granted by the Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday.
This developed after the anti-graft court’s Third Division received an official copy of the High Court’s ruling.
The produce order – one addressed to the Director of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and one addressed to the Director of the Philippine National Police General Hospital in Camp Crame – directed that Enrile be brought before the Sandiganbayan’s Third Division “to be present for the posting of bail.”
The 91-year-old senator is under hospital arrest at the PNP General Hospital because of a P172-million plunder charge – a non-bailable offense – he is facing before the Sandiganbayan’s Third Division in connection with the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) or pork barrel scam.
Enrile may not be moved, transferred, or removed from his place of detention without a court order. A defendant’s physical presence is also required in posting bail.
He is expected to post P1 million bail in the plunder case, and a total of P450,000 in the graft charges, in connection with the PDAF scam.
