Sandiganbayan Presiding Justice Amparo Cabotaje-Tang has asked Supreme Court Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno to authorize the organization of two new divisions at the anti-graft court.
“Once that is approved, the Chief Justice will then have to ask the Judicial and Bar Council to open the positions for application of the justices,” Tang said in a news briefing.
The Sandiganbayan is seeking a P166 million budget for 2015.
Based on the rule of seniority, Associate Justices Rodolfo Ponferrada and Alexander Gesmundo will head the two new divisions.
Tang said 66 positions will need to be filled in and this includes the six justices to be appointed, their staff, and office of the clerk of court.
“This will require a budget of P166,843,061. This includes everything, yung mga personal services, maintenance and other operating expenses or MOOE, and capital outlay,” she explained.
For 2016, the budget for the two divisions will be included in the anti-graft court’s regular budget.
The two new divisions are seen to be in place next year.
“I was advised by the Chief Justice to amend our proposed budget to include already the budget for these two divisions,” Tang said.
“Hopefully before the end of the year, everything will be in place. The offices’ spaces and the justices will have been appointed,” she added.
