Santiago City poll bets sign peace covenant


CAUAYAN CITY, Isabela: The Commission on Election (Comelec) in Cauayan City lead the signing of a peace covenant on Sunday in partnership with the Our Lady of Pillar Parish Church in the city. Comelec-Cauayan City chief Afigenia Marquez said the peace covenant signing will be a binding instrument among candidates in the city to ensure a peaceful and orderly elections before, during and after the May 9, 2016 national and local elections. Marquez said local candidates in the city have signified their intention to join during the peace covenant signing to be held at Our Lady of Pillar church in Cauayan City. She said that even the mayoral candidates are relatives, the need to hold a peace covenant is necessary not only for them but all candidates — they be independent or members of political parties. The Comelec official of the city is hopeful that come May 9, 2016, there will be no election-related violence.
