• Santos saves Beermen from jaws of defeat

Reigning champion San Miguel Beer banked on Arwind Santos’ game-winning put back to hack out a narrow 106-105 come-from-behind win over Barako Bull on Sunday for fifth victory in the Philippine Basketball Association Season 41 Philippine Cup at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City.

Santos, who tallied with 15 points along with six rebounds and two block shots, scored a buzzer-beating put back to hand the Beermen their fifth win six games while dealing the Energy their third defeat in six games.

“I think from the start I see the body language of Barako. They had a chance to beat us in this game. One point win is still a win and I will accept it with my whole heart,” said San Miguel Beer coach Leo Austria during post game interview. “Happy to see Arwind making that winning shot.”

Big man June Mar Fajardo posted 28 points along with 20 rebounds and two blocks, while Ronald Tubid had 16 points and Alex Cabagnot had 12 points to lead the Beermen. Gabby Espinas and Marcio Lassiter contributed 11 points apiece also for San Miguel Beer.

Guard Josh Urbiztondo tallied only 19 points, while Willie Wilson added 18 points and 11 rebounds and Ryan Roose Garcia finished with 14 points for Barako Bull.

In the second game, Barangay Ginebra survived Mahindra, 80-76, to earn its third win in six games.

The Enforcers dropped to 1-5 mark.
