If the world has People Magazine’s annual Most Beautiful list of international celebrities and influencers, the Philippines has its own trusted version via Yes! Magazine’s “100 Most Beautiful Stars” annual issue.
For 2014, the leading local entertainment magazine revealed this week the stars who made it to the prestigious list—and among the 100, one was given the ultimate “Most Beautiful Star” title.
She is Sarah Geronimo who in her 12 years in the industry is a triple threat in singing, dancing and acting, and has grown into the young, beautiful woman.
On July 29, Yes! unveiled this year’s most beautiful stars at a press presentation held at Elements in Centris, Quezon City. Gracing the event was Sarah herself along with fellow awardees like GMA hunk Tom Rodriguez, child stars Ryzza Mae Dizon and Adrea Brillantes, GMA Network talent Julie Ann San Jose, ABS-CBN actress Iza Calzado, and celebrity couple Kim Jones and Jericho Rosales, among others.
In accepting the honor, Sarah said, “The first time, I heard about it, nagulat ako. Sabi ko, ‘Totoo ba yan?’ Nahihiya ako to be the Most Beautiful talaga. Pero nagpapasalamat ako na ina-acknowlege yong kabuuan ko bilang isang tao. Hindi lang yong beauty na pisikal, kundi kung ano yong nai-offer natin sa industriyang ito.”
Event host Iya Villania, who also made it to the list along with husband Drew Arellano, asked Yes! editor-in-chief Jo-Ann Maglipon why they picked Sarah as the Most Beautiful Star of 2014.
Maglipon replied, “For some reason, we [in the editorial team]have all said, ang ganda, ganda ni Sarah ngayon more than any other time. We all just felt that she’s at her prime.”
The editor then added that no one could question their choice because, “Sarah is not only supremely talented in all three areas of [her]work, in acting, singing and dancing, she’s also, as we all know, a very good person.”
In her editorial for the special issue, Maglipon also wondered how Sarah is achieving such feat. She wrote, “These days, there is a quiet sophistication and confidence about Sarah that’s hard to ignore. Was it brought by her superstar status that has been backed up by a succession of blockbuster hits? Or maybe her record-breaking sold-out concerts over the years? Or perhaps her new romance with boyfriend Matteo Guidicelli?”
For the Pop Star Princess, the answer is quite simple. She explained, “Mas nakilala ko na kung sino ako. Acceptance of your flaws, kung ano ‘yong mga wala sa’yo, but also acknowledging your strengths.”
And it seems Sarah is very happy with matters of the heart too. It was reported that boyfriend Matteo threw a surprise birthday party for her attended by close friends. She turned 26 on July 25.
Sarah also continued to prove that she had gone a long way from winning Star for a Night in 2002, and is even a mentor-judge in The Voice Philippines. More importantly, she also serves as an inspiration for her talents just like Lyca Gairanod who became The Voice Kids grand champion on July 27.
In ending, Sarah shared words of wisdom in defining beauty. She said, “Maganda ang isang tao kapag mayroon syang peace sa puso nya, pagmamahal, genuine happiness, contentment. Everything follows, kung anong lumalabas sa bibig mo, sa mata mo, nagiging maganda lahat.”
Besides Sarah, Yes! also named top beautiful stars in various categories including Piolo Pascual and John Lloyd Cruz (Blockbuster Kings), Angel Locsin and Marian Rivera (TV Queens), Daniel Padilla and Tom Rodriguez (Primetime Big Hitters), Julia Barretto and Kylie Padilla (Sweethearts), Derek Ramsay and Solenn Heussaff (Heat), and many more.
Yes! Magazine’s 100 Most Beautiful Stars 2014 special issue is now available at newsstands, bookstores and supermarkets and convenience stores nationwide.
