SARIAYA, Quezon: Around 4,500 member-beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) from this town marched in a unity walk early Sunday morning as they appealed to the national government to institutionalize the said program that benefits some four million Filipinos.
The marchers walked a distance of more than one kilometer, bearing a streamer that said “Sana po, Ituloy ang Pagbabago” and “Yes to CCT Law Campaign.”
Other participants waved white banners to drive home their appeal as they tread the town’s major streets, culminating at the Sariaya Sports Complex, across the parish cathedral.
Annalie, a parent-leader beneficiary, stressed that this program greatly helps them in getting through some daily expenses, prompting them to join the march. She expressed some apprehensions that the 4Ps would be junked by the next administration.
“If the Pantawid program is passed into a law, poor families will have more leverage, until such time that they rise above the poverty line, “ Annalie said. She added that they are willing to make extra efforts to convince lawmakers to strengthen the said Conditional Cash Transfer project by passing a corresponding legislation.
The marchers found an ally with Mayor Rosauro Masilang, who gamely marched with the 4Ps beneficiaries, and vowed to help them convey their message to national leaders.
