UK Ambassador welcomes top British tailoring brand to Manila
Whoever said that diplomats are only capable of talking about foreign relations never met outgoing British Ambassador to the Philippines, His Excellency Stephen Lillie.
For one of his final official engagements as his country’s envoy to Manila, Lillie—who was just profiled in June for this very section—graced the store opening of T.M. Lewin, the affordable London-based luxury shirting brand, at SM Aura Premiere.
The ambassador lauded the brand for its impeccable style of British tailoring to Manila, saying, “T.M. Lewin has grown into a trusted brand since its first shop opened in London more than a century ago. Famous for its excellent craftsmanship, it is increasingly in demand globally and I’m really pleased that it is now entering the Philippine market.
“Its presence here will give Filipinos a wider selection of quality menswear to suit their sartorial needs,” Lillie added.
The ambassador helped the brand’s Philippine partner, Vogue Concepts Inc., to welcome T.M. Lewin’s head of International Operations, Mark Cowdery, who joined him in cutting the ceremonial ribbon for T.M. Lewin’s second store in the Philippines.
The event was attended by members of the British Embassy and the British Chamber of Commerce, as well as SM’s management team.
Mark Dunhill, international director of T.M. Lewin, spoke on behalf of the brand, enthusing, “We are excited to be bringing T.M. Lewin to the Philippines in this, our 120th year. I am delighted to have secured a partnership with Vogue Concepts Inc., one of the most professional and respected retail operators in the Philippines market.
“I look forward to working with them to ensure that T.M. Lewin’s high quality, great value, English business wear becomes a favorite with stylish businessmen and women in Manila and beyond.”
Behind the label
The eponymous brand was founded by Thomas Mayes Lewin in 1898 on Jermyn Street in St. James, London, one of the city’s most historic and fashionable streets, which is famed known for high-quality British artistry and craftsmanship.
Before T.M. Lewin started producing button-down shirts or what they referred to “coat-shirts” during that era, men would pull their shirts over their heads, making T.M. Lewin a pioneer ahead of its time.
Fashions may have changed since 1898 but excellent craftsmanship, quality, service and value remain the driving force behind the T.M. Lewin brand. It continues to use traditional manufacturing techniques devised all those years ago and over a century later, the quality of its business wear remains among the best in the world.
Today, sartorial, timeless, contemporary and effortless are but a few adjectives that describe T.M. Lewin. With a meticulous attention to detail when crafting its products such as the length of a sleeve or the height of a collar, T.M. Lewin sets itself from the rest of the competition.
All T.M. Lewin shirts feature fine quality two-fold 100-percent cotton, reinforced buttonholes, choices of collar shape, two-cuff options, and up to six different sleeve lengths. Its in-house design team interprets the latest styles in men’s fashion and creates up to 100 exclusive shirt fabric designs for its customers to choose from.
There is a style for every gentleman: from traditionally British to the more modern look, from formal to casual. Seasonal shirts are sold in limited quantities as to preserve a feeling of exclusivity for its clientele.
T.M. Lewin now has just under 100 stores in the UK, with new stores opening in countries across the rest of the world, including Europe, Singapore, Australia, and now the Philippines.
As international demand for T.M. Lewin’s high quality shirts, suits, and accessories continue to grow, more stores in Manila mark the new chapter of the brand’s exciting growth in Asia.
T.M. Lewin is located at the Second Level of SM Aura Premier.
