SHARIFF AGUAK, Maguindanao: An Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) bandit was captured by the Joint Task Force Basilan at dawn of Sunday in Barangay Bohe Yawas, Lamitan City, Basilan.
Seized by soldiers of the 19th Special Forces Company of the 4th Special Forces Battalion was Ismael Gampal, according to Capt. Jo-ann Petinglay, spokesman of the Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom).
Recovered from Gampal were an M16 rifle and other war materials including a battle uniform and a military backpack, Petinglay said.
“Our persistent military operations specifically targeting the Abu Sayyaf group resulted in this recent accomplishment,” said Col. Juvymax Uy, commander of the Joint Task Force Basilan.
“We also would like to recognize the help of those who have already surrendered for the precise information they have given so that we can zero-in on specific ASG targets,” Uy added.
There are 262 ASG bandits already neutralized of whom 97 were killed, 67 arrested and 98 surrendered.
A total of 151 firearms were recovered, 131 of which were high-powered and 20 low-powered.
Meanwhile, Lt. Gen. Carlito Galvez Jr, WestMinCom chief, said, “We assure the peace-loving Filipino people that your soldiers will be more driven and inspired to take on our mandate to protect and keep safe our communities from terrorist threat, no matter what it takes.”
