Police linked Suari to the fatal Abu Sayyaf pillage of Ipil in Zamboanga Sibugay province in 1995 and the brutal killings of civilians in 2001 and soldiers in Basilan in 2007, including kidnappings in the province.

Superintendent Rogelio Alabata, regional police spokesman, said Suari was also involved in Tairan golden harvest (plantation) kidnapping in 2001and positively identified by witnesses to and victims in the incident.

He added that Sauri was arrested by joint police and military forces on July 18 but the bandit’s arrest was only announced on Wednesday because of ongoing investigation.

Military operations are going on in Basilan against the Abu Sayyaf, but security officials did not release any report on the progress of the government’s anti-insurgency campaign in Basilan.
