SC suspends lawyer for forum shopping suit

THE Supreme Court has suspended a lawyer from the practice of law after finding him guilty of violating the Code of Professional Responsibility and the Rule on Anti-Forum Shopping, in connection with a land dispute involving Silvestre Plaza. In a full court ruling dated March 10, 2015 but was released to the media just recently, the High Tribunal found the recommendation of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines “to be supported by the evidence on record and applicable laws and rules” on the one-month suspension against lawyer Agustin Tarroza. The charge against Tarroza stemmed from a referral by the 21st Division of the Court of Appeals (CA) to the High Tribunal for respondent to be investigated for forum shopping.
