SC suspends Naga judge for dishonesty

THE Supreme Court (SC) suspended a judge in Naga City for failure to disclose in his Personal Data Sheet (PDS) the administrative case previously filed against him while he was assistant Provincial Prosecutor in Libmanan, Camarines Sur. In a ruling penned by Associate Justice Bienvenido Reyes and concurred in by Associate Justices Presbitero Velasco Jr., Jose Portugal Perez, Diosdado Peralta, and Francis Jardeleza, the SC’s Third Division found Judge Jaime E. Contreras of the Regional Trial Court (RTC) of Naga City, Branch 25, guilty of dishonesty. The court suspended Contreras from the service “for one (1) year without pay, to take effect upon the finality hereof, with a warning that a repetition of the same or similar act will be dealt with more severely.”
