THE Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday ordered the executive department to submit its comment to a petition questioning the 0.6-percent increase in Social Security System (SSS) members’ contributions. The 15-man tribunal ordered the respondents to lodge their comment within 10 days. Named respondents are President Benigno Aquino 3rd, Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr., Social Security Commission and SSS president and chief executive officer Emilio de Quiros. The petitioners, which include Rep. Fernando Hicap of Anakpawis party-list, argued that there is no legitimate basis for the increase and that it would be an additional burden on its members.
