Search continues for missing official


POLILLO, Quezon: Search and rescue operations continue for the vice mayor of this town, who was reported missing when the boat he was riding on Sunday capsized near Pulong Ibon in Barangay Bucao here.

Police said Vice Mayor Ramil Fajardo boarded a small motorboat with fisherman Romeo Malaguenia at about 3 p.m. on June 19 in Barangay Calutcot, Burdeos town.

Malaguenia recounted they were nearing Pulong Ibon when Fajardo went to use the bathroom at the rear of the boat that upon return, the boat tipped to the side and capsized, throwing the victims to the open sea.

He added they struggled to swim back to the boat, but Fajardo was gasping, shouting that he does not know how to swim.

A flash alarm has been transmitted to all other local government units and concerned agencies, as search and rescue operations by the Philippine Coast Guard, municipal disaster risk reduction and management council (MDRRMC), Bantay Dagat of the Department of Agriculture and other agencies of Polillo town continue as of Tuesday.
