Veteran Filipino golfer Jay Bayron is bracing for his defense of the Aboitiz Invitational crown this August. Bayron ruled the tournament when it was inaugurated in 2011, and last year at the Wack Wack Golf and Country Club’s East course, he dominated it anew, beating Malaysia’s Gavin Green and Thailand’s Rattanon Wannasrichan.
Bayron said the Apo Golf in Davao holds a special significance to him because it is where his career as a golfer started. “I started playing there when I was just 10 or 12 years old,” he said in Filipino.
When asked to name his most memorable win, he said, “When I won at PGT Forest Hills in 2010.”
Bayron describes his life as a pro golfer as busy and fun.
“I practice my skills throughout the week and I also jog regularly,” he said. “But I’m happy and I enjoy it particularly if my game is good.”
When not practicing or competing, Bayron said he enjoys helping his wife bake cakes.
Bayron, who named his fellow Pinoy Miguel Tabuena as his favorite golfer, said he’s happy where he is at the moment as far as golf is concerned, “ I’m happy and there’s nothing more I want to achieve,” he concluded.
