With the objective of encouraging Filipinos to appreciate arts and culture through creative outlets, the Society for Cultural Enrichment Inc. (SCEI) successfully staged its annual, grand event dubbed “When Art Meets Fashion” on Tuesday at the Makati Shangri-La Hotel.
Now on its second year, the event gathered over 300 guests from the diplomatic, business, art and society circles. Everyone’s favorite host—who is also my favorite Ninong—Johnny Litton served as emcee of the night.
Welcoming everyone at the event were SCEI chairman, Consul Helen Ong and vice chairman, former Central Bank governor Jaime Laya, who shared the meaning of the event through inspirational messages.
A wonderful dinner, prepared by the world-class chefs of the hotel, ensued. And as everyone had their tummies filled with good food and better conversations, the program finally started.
The first part was the special awarding of famous and deserving artists who have made a name for themselves by contributing their talents to the world of arts.
The awardees, which were presented trophies by Ong and Laya with the assistance of committee members were: Anna Vergel for novelty crafts; Jose Tence Ruiz for painting; Liza Macuha Elizalde for dance; Ryan Cayabyab for music; Ramon Orlina for sculpture; and Danny Dolor for propagation of the arts and culture.
The second part was a fashion show of members and friends of SCEI. Beautiful and intricate gowns were paraded not only by the adults but also the cute children of members.
What a sight to behold. Each segment had a color motif. One segment had orientalia and the finale was Filipiniana showing beautiful ternos.
Some numbers were well applauded but as a whole, the show was truly inspiring.
I want to personally congratulate the hardworking and charming Helen Ong and equally hardworking Jimmy Laya for putting up the wonderful show. Shout out also goes to their committee members Eni Alba, Consul Agnes Huibonhua, Consul Betty Chua, Maritess Pineda, and my favorite model that night elegant Elaine Villar who walked down the ramp in her royal strut.
We are looking forward to another event like this. Bravo!
