One of showbiz’ most underrated yet talented actors Wendell Ramos is experiencing a second wind in his career as he crosses over to ABS-CBN. After a lengthy tenure in GMA Network, where he was a mainstay of Bubble Gang, he joined Ogie Alcasid when the singer-composer and comedian moved to TV5.
Though given a handful of projects, Wendell felt that he could do more than just sitcoms and expressed back in April that if given the chance, he would like to join ABS-CBN’s well-known roster of teleseryes.
On Thursday, Wendell announced that his prayers have been answered as ABS-CBN held a solo press conference for the actor, which he extremely appreciated.
“Nakakatuwa at halos hindi ako makapaniwala,” laughed the good-looking celebrity whose drama chops, according to ABS-CBN Business Unit Head and director Ruel Bayani, is sharp as ever.
“Everyone thinks we have so many artists in ABS-CBN, and yes we do, but when we look for someone in the mould of John Estrada and Albert Martinez, we need more of them. Wendell easily fits the bill for their type of roles,” Bayani declared.
Initially, Wendell is joining the cast of top-rating teleserye Pasion De Amor. He plays the role of Gabriel, the illegitimate son of Gabriela (Teresa Loyzaga), who is slowly entering the lives of the Elizondos. His motives, however, remain unknown to viewers and the answer to whether he is a protagonist or antagonist in the story is yet to be revealed.
Pasion de Amor’s lead stars are Jake Cuenca, Ejay Falcon, Joseph Marco, Ellen Adarna, Coleen Garcia and Arci Muñoz. The soap is Wendell’s first starring role in an ABS-CBN teleserye following his acting stint in one of the episodes of the network’s hit legal drama Ipaglaban Mo.
According to ABS-CBN executives more is in store for Wendell in this his second wind in showbiz.
Pasion De Amor airs weeknights before TV Patrol.
