Security up In Lamitan after foiled bombing attempt

The Philippine National Police in Lamitan City, Basilan are on a tightened security alert after government forces foiled an attempt to blow up a public market using a bomb-laden passenger jeep on late Friday afternoon. Lamitan City Police Chief Gean Gallardo said he has directed his men to intensify their security operations in the city and protect the public from danger. Earlier, a concerned citizen alerted the police on the presence of a basket full of vegetables placed inside a passenger jeep that was parked near the public market. On close inspection, the Military Ordnance unit found the basket to be an improvised explosive device (IED) made with ammonium nitrate, wirings, concrete nails and a triggering device. The Police is still establishing the identity of those responsible for the foiled bombing attempt.
